Obesity is one of the fastest growing public health problems in the UK. By the age of 11 a third of British children are overweight. To counter this, it is important to introduce children to healthy eating habits as early as possible. However, cooking utensils are dangerous and can cause serious injury.  In fact, in 2015 the most serious accidents in the home happened in the kitchen. And every year more than 67,000 children experience an accident there.

We will create an interactive and tactile application that allows children to safely cook virtual, healthy meals along with their parents. Through using the touch screen display, children can mimic the creation of hundreds of recipes on a virtual kitchen counter, without touching a dangerous kitchen utensil as their parent cooks the same meal for real. During the experience, supplementary animated content will feature playful cartoon characters who will teach lessons on healthy eating and kitchen safety.
